Real carrier

Real carrier virtual number: a line on a mobile network you keep

A real carrier virtual number is a mobile number you read from a dashboard instead of a handset. It is permanent, private to you and independent of any SIM card.

Key points

  • A real carrier number is allocated from the number ranges of a mobile network operator.
  • A VoIP number is cheap and quick, but its line type is recorded as internet-based, which some services distrust.
  • Accounts ask for a fresh code long after signup: on a new device, after a password reset, when a login looks unusual.
  • Messages arrive in your private inbox, and we do not share your data with third parties or with the mobile network operator.

What makes a number real carrier

A real carrier number is allocated from the number ranges of a mobile network operator. It is not created by an internet-calling app. To anyone who looks it up, it appears as an ordinary mobile line in the country it belongs to.

A virtual real carrier number adds one thing: you do not need the SIM. The messages that arrive are delivered to a web dashboard or an API, so you can read them from any browser and are not tied to one phone.

Real carrier, VoIP and eSIM compared

A VoIP number is cheap and quick, but its line type is recorded as internet-based, which some services distrust. An eSIM is a real SIM profile installed on a compatible phone: excellent for data and calls, but the number lives on that device. A real carrier virtual number gives you the mobile line type without the handset, which suits inbound verification texts.

The trade-off is capability. A number like this receives SMS; it is not for making calls or sending messages, and it is not a data plan.

Why keep the number instead of renting it

Accounts ask for a fresh code long after signup: on a new device, after a password reset, when a login looks unusual. A short rental has usually expired by then, which is how people get locked out. A permanent number stays assigned to your account while you renew, so those later codes still arrive.

You can choose a monthly plan or a yearly plan, which works out cheaper per month, and switch on auto-renew from your wallet balance so it never lapses.

Privacy and payment

Messages arrive in your private inbox, and we do not share your data with third parties or with the mobile network operator. Payment is by cryptocurrency or wallet balance, which keeps card details off the checkout. Card and PayPal payments are planned for a later release.

Common questions

Is a real carrier virtual number the same as a SIM card?

No. You do not receive a SIM. The number is allocated on a mobile network and its texts appear in your dashboard.

Which countries are available?

The catalog is shown live on the countries page and currently includes the US, Canada, the UK, the Netherlands, Israel and Ukraine.

How much is it?

Prices are per country and plan. The yearly plan is cheaper per month; see the pricing page.

Can I keep the number if I stop using an app?

Yes. It stays yours while you renew it and works with any service that accepts it.

Are VNumbr numbers real mobile numbers?

Yes. They are allocated on real mobile carrier networks rather than internet-based VoIP pools. Each app decides for itself which numbers it accepts, so no provider can guarantee a specific result.

How do I pay, and do I need ID?

Pay with cryptocurrency through Cryptomus or NOWPayments, or from a wallet balance. Signup needs only an email address and no identity documents.

What is the difference between a permanent number and an OTP number?

A permanent number is billed monthly or yearly and stays assigned to you for as long as you renew it. An OTP number is billed per activation and receives a single code before it is released.

Only need one code, not a number to keep?

This guide is about VNumbr's permanent numbers. For a single sign-up instead, VNumbr also sells OTP numbers billed per activation.
